Multiracial and multicultural exist on the same plane with slight differences. They are not mutually exclusive, one may hold only one of these identities. Multicultural revolves around different cultures, such as the differences between English, German, and Swedish ethnicities. Multiracial can include multicultural identities, but often focuses on different races (white, black, Asian, etc.)
From my interpretation of the differences between “multi” and “mixed”, I see multiracial as something more distinctive in the identities, more like a marbled cake. I understand “mixed” as something that looks more like a regular cake, of mixing everything together to form one cohesive identity. However, I understand that these can change from person to person and it is up to everyone to decide how they would prefer to identify themselves.
I also see multiracial as including distinct identities and love the metaphor of the marbled cake with 2 distinct flavors. Multiracial people I think have sides rather than fully being mixed and blended altogether.
